Memorable Meals: La Condesa in Austin, TX

This post was originally published on my previous blog, Peanut Butter & Dill Pickles.  I loved it so much, I wanted to share it here too.

Sometimes you have a meal and it’s soooo good you can’t stop talking about it, you want to ask for the recipes, and you don’t want to ever get up and leave the table because deliciousness keeps coming out of the kitchen door.  This can equally happen at someone’s home or at a restaurant, by the way.
I affectionately call these “just one of those meals.”  People seem to just get it when you attach that phrase to a great dining experience.

The experience I’m posting about today was the first meal we had when we landed in Austin, TX to visit family earlier in May.  I’d read about La Condesa in a food magazine and added it to my list of places to hit when we touched down.

Needing to kill some time before we met up with family, we headed here for lunch…and almost never left.  I present to you:

We started with pineapple mint agua frescas…and my mom and I easily polished off 4 or 5 before we left.  So refreshing on a hot, Texas day.

Next we moved onto the guacamole tasting. Included were the following varieties of guacamole: traditional, chipotle with slivered marcona almonds, pomegranate with queso fresco, and lump crab with apple and coconut vinegar AND four seasonal salsas.

My gosh.  I could just stop here.

But I won’t.

And I can’t.

Next up was lump crab meat mini tostadas with green mango, grapefruit, tomato, chives, and chipotle mayo.

Something you should know.  If I’m ANYWHERE and Mexican street corn is on the menu, consider it ordered.  I’ve never been disappointed.  La Condesa was no different.  Here is their version with crema, chili powder, and fresh lime.

I’m drooling now.  What do you do when you’ve eaten some of the best food of your entire life and you find yourself full to the brim?  Order dessert.  In fact, order two.  Start with their chocolate cake with chile de arbol, ancho, caramelized banana, and brown sugar banana ice cream.

Then move on to goat milk ice cream sandwiched between two brown sugar blondies, custard, blackberries, cassis, and pistachios.

Gosh was it good.

Just one of those meals.
